Vehicle Diagnostics in Baldoyle
Engine and electrical fault finding on all makes and models, with the results explained before any repair is agreed.

About this service
Modern cars and vans monitor themselves constantly. When a sensor reading falls outside the expected range, the vehicle stores a fault code and usually lights a warning lamp. A diagnostic check reads those codes and, more importantly, works out what caused them.
At BNT Autos we provide engine and electrical diagnostics for cars and vans of all makes and models. Our technicians can identify faults in engine management, ABS, transmission, DPF, airbag and emissions systems. A code on its own is only a starting point, so we combine it with live data, a physical inspection and a road test where it helps.
Once we have pinpointed the issue we explain the results in plain language and recommend the most effective repair before carrying out any work. That approach saves time and stress, and it avoids the cost of replacing parts that were never faulty.
When a diagnostic check is the right first step
- Engine management light is on or flashing
- A steady light means a stored fault. A flashing light usually means something that can damage the catalytic converter, so it needs prompt attention.
- ABS, traction or airbag warning
- These systems disable themselves when they detect a fault, so the safety feature you are relying on may not be working.
- DPF or emissions warnings on a diesel
- Frequent short journeys often prevent a diesel particulate filter regenerating properly. Catching it early is far cheaper than a replacement.
- Rough running, misfires or lost power
- Hesitation, uneven idling or limp mode all leave a trail in the vehicle's data that points to the system at fault.
- Intermittent electrical faults
- Windows, locking, lighting or starting problems that come and go are much easier to trace with live data than by eye.
- Before buying a used car
- A scan can reveal stored or recently cleared faults that a short test drive would never show.
The diagnostic session
- · Full system scan for stored and pending fault codes
- · Live sensor data reviewed while the engine runs
- · Road test where the fault only appears under load or at speed
- · Physical inspection of the wiring, connectors and components involved
Systems we cover
- · Engine management and fuelling
- · ABS, traction control and braking electronics
- · Automatic transmission and DSG faults
- · DPF and emissions systems
- · Airbag and restraint systems
- · Charging, starting and general electrical faults
What you get afterwards
- · A plain-language explanation of what the codes mean
- · The likely cause, not just the code description
- · A recommended repair with an estimate before work begins
- · Fault codes cleared and the system rechecked once the repair is done
How the work is carried out
- Step 1
Describe the symptom
Tell us which light is on and what the vehicle is doing. Anything you have noticed about when it happens helps narrow it down.
- Step 2
Scan and data review
We connect to the vehicle, read all available systems and study live readings rather than relying on the code alone.
- Step 3
Confirm the cause
We inspect the components and wiring the data points to, so the diagnosis is verified before anyone spends money on parts.
- Step 4
Repair options and estimate
We explain what we found, what the repair involves and what it will cost. You decide whether to go ahead.
- Step 5
Repair, clear and retest
After the repair we clear the codes and recheck the system to confirm the fault has genuinely gone.

Frequently asked questions
- Is it safe to keep driving with the engine light on?
- A steady light usually means you can drive carefully to the garage, but you should get it checked soon. A flashing light, a loss of power or any temperature or oil pressure warning means you should stop as soon as it is safe and call us.
- Does the diagnostic fee include the repair?
- No. The diagnostic check is the work of identifying the fault. Once we know what it is, we quote the repair separately so you can decide whether to go ahead.
- Why can't you just tell me the fault over the phone from the code?
- A code tells you which reading is out of range, not why. The same code can be caused by a sensor, a wiring fault, a leak or a mechanical problem, so it needs checking on the vehicle before anyone can be confident.
- Can you clear the light without fixing anything?
- Clearing a code does not fix the cause and the light will normally return. We would rather find the fault and let you decide what to do about it.
- How long does a diagnostic check take?
- A straightforward scan and review is usually under an hour. Intermittent faults can take longer because they need to be reproduced before they can be traced. We will tell you if that is likely.
- Do you diagnose DPF problems on diesels?
- Yes. We check DPF and emissions systems, look at driving pattern as well as the hardware, and explain the realistic options for your vehicle.
